SCOTT HENRIKSEN

principal / DIRECTOR
AIA, USHE, NCARB

Born and raised in Utah as the youngest of six kids to a Dutch immigrant mom and a Scandinavian, general contractor dad, Scott was destined to end up in a field related to art, design, engineering or construction. His mom was always telling stories about the kid who stuck his finger in the dike to save the lowlands from a flood and his dad was always building something and giving him the opportunity to help.

And then it happened: His dad left a set of drawings open on the dining room table for a project he was bidding. As Scott looked through the document, it took only a moment before he was hooked on the art and science of architecture. Since that day, he cannot recall ever wanting to be anything but an architect. So in a way, he is living his dream. Scott has enjoyed the experience, the relationships and the projects that have become something of a legacy to his mom and dad. He hasn’t designed a dike…yet, but he has his finger at the ready to plug the hole—just in case.

At home Scott is a proud husband, dad, granddad, tinkerer and teller of bad dad jokes. He married his wife in 1980 and together they have nurtured four terrific kids, each with families of their own. The total yield so far is nine grandkids (and eight cats, if they count). Scott is always working on something at the house to make it a little more livable and a little more sustainable. He likes golf, auto racing, playing with power tools, and being a good neighbor.

At GSBS Scott is one of the old guys. He’s worked on just about every project type and loves the diversity that brings. He loves working with people from varying backgrounds and professions. A little bit of each of them has rubbed off on him and in a way, made him who he is today. He views everyone as his teacher and he as the student.
