GALLIvan 20-YEAR ReCOMMENDATION
The Gallivan Center is a 3.5-acre public plaza and gathering space in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Our master plan focused on balancing its role as a regional destination with its function as an everyday space for the surrounding community. A key component of our approach was enhancing ground-floor activation around the plaza and introducing user-centered programming to ensure engaging experiences for all visitors—residents, workers, and tourists alike. Given the range of stakeholders involved, our process carefully navigated diverse expectations and roles, aligning interests to create a shared vision for space. By evaluating programming, public space design, and long-term investment strategies, we developed a framework to strengthen Gallivan as both an economic driver and a year-round gathering place. This planning effort considered the center’s 20-year future and provided recommendations to secure its role as a key entertainment and community anchor in downtown Salt Lake City.
