Allen Park ADAPTIVE REUSE PLAN
Our adaptive reuse and management plan for Allen Park in Salt Lake City honors the legacy of this cherished landmark while aligning with the City's goals for preservation, ecological restoration, and public engagement. Through a series of in-depth planning and community involvement phases, we crafted a vision that balances the park’s historic significance with the need to protect its natural habitats and wildlife. The plan enhances the riparian zones along Emigration Creek, creates gathering spaces, and connects trails to the city's larger network, all while preserving the park's unique art installations and cultural features. The careful removal of deteriorated structures opened space for natural growth, while select buildings were stabilized and repurposed to serve park operations and artistic endeavors. Our approach ensures that Allen Park continues to be a sanctuary for both nature and community, respecting its historical value and allowing future generations to enjoy and learn from this urban oasis. The planning process culminated in the “Arts & Sciences in the Wild” concept, which fulfills the City’s vision for a park that integrates ecology, art, and history seamlessly into the urban fabric.
