Hangfei Zhang
Architecture / emerging professional
Hangfei was born and raised in Changsha, one of the oldest cities in China. One of his favorite things to do when he was a kid was exploring the old streets and alleys—listening as his parents shared the stories behind those historic buildings. In 2010, Hangfei came to the United States where he earned both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Architecture from the University of Utah.
In 2018, Hangfei and his partner explored Alaska, “the last frontier” in North America. Gathering great design inspiration and building resources from Utah and Alaska, Hangfei assisted in the design of the Aurora Villa, a modern boutique hotel for guest enjoying the northern light in Fairbanks Alaska.
In his spare time, Hangfei likes spending time with his wife, kid, and cat, remodeling his in-laws house, and garden landscaping. Hangfei is big fan of WWII aviation reenactment and uniform collections. You can easily spot him with his friend at statewide airshows or high school WWII days. Hangfei hosted a private AVG (American Volunteer Group) Flying Tiger collection exhibition at Fort Douglas Military Museum in 2016. During the summer season, Hangfei can easily be found in the garage restoring his vintage car and motorcycle. He also loves wood/metal working, painting, photography, traditional Chinese cooking and modern music.
