DAVID PAUL BREMS

GSBS FOUNDING PRINCIPAL / DIRECTOR OF DESIGN
FAIA, LEED AP BD+C

With a Master of Architecture degree, David chose to practice in Utah—a place of rapid growth and urbanization, intimately connected to the diversity of the Wasatch Mountains, the Great Basin and the Colorado Plateau. For him, the skiing, sailing, biking, and exploring in the desert high country makes it the greatest place in the world to practice, thrive and raise a family. David is a registered Architect in 12 states.

In 1983, David created David Brems and Associates—a practice based on Design Excellence and Environmental Responsibility. Later, David merged with other architects of ambition, talent and entrepreneurial spirit to form GSBS—Gillies, Stransky, Brems and Smith.

David is a leader of the Sustainable Design Movement, helping establish an ethic that now runs deep in American Architecture. He chaired the National AIA Committee on Design in 2006, uniting the AIA Committee on the Environment and the Committee on Design in a first ever collaborative vision, “The Architecture of Sustainability”. He was elevated to AIA Fellowship in 2006 for his professional contribution to the art of Design. Also in 2006, David was awarded the bronze medal, AIA Utah’s highest award.

David gives back to his community serving as a Director of Design Build Bluff, the Advisory Board of Envision Utah, Emigration Canyon Council, Unified Police Board and SLVLESA (Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area).

As GSBS Director of Design David has led many important projects that define the firm.
